ONE LAST THING!!!

I am done!!! Never wait till the last minute to do something.  I thought I had everything planed out and was not going to be up late on night doing it….I was wrong.  I did have most of the class done but I thought I only had 2 things to do which turned into 4 and it took longer then I thought and here I am in the Dunn Center at 1:20 am writing this.  But hey its ok I got it done and I did everything the way it was suppose to be done.  I learned a lot in this class that I know I will use not only in my classroom but in my personal life as well.  I really enjoyed having a blog even though at times I was not as happy to have one in the end I really did enjoy having one.  And I can see myself keeping up with it.  I have thought about maybe blogging about life as a D-1 athlete and what all is put into it.  I can blog about hotels we stay at, what we eat, basically anything I can think of.  I think it would be pretty cool to do and think I will do it.  But for now I am going to take a small break from blogging.  Enjoy the rest of your summer!!

THING 23

I used someone else’s work in my THING #7.  I took a picture from flickr but credited the photographer at the end of my post so it was ok to do.  I now know A LOT more about Creative Commons because I did not know anything about it before.  But I am happy I know things now about it because I know I will start using it a lot in class.  This way if I do create something and put it online I will have to get credit for it if someone else uses it.  I can also allow my students to do this as well.  I think they would think it would be pretty cool to say you have a copyright on something.  I learned a lot about Creative Commons and I am glad I did.

THING 22

Once I  got around the site and knew what was going on I found this to be a great site!  You can have binders with articles in websites or websites that have games on them that you want your kids to play.  You just have to get them to that binder and they can get it from there.  I think it is a easy but great way for the kids to get to websites easily without getting sidetracked.  I choose to have my binders be about basketball so the kids can get familiar with it before we go play it in P.E.  My 3 binders are: Basketball History, Basketball Highlights, and Basketball Rules.  I picked for you guys to see the Basketball Highlights one.  I like this one the most because it shows highlights of some of the greatest to ever play the game and I think the kids will get really excited about it.  I think that this is a really cool site to use.

THING 21

I thought Animoto was very easy to use and make a video on.  The only hard thing I had was trying to find pictures to put in the video.  This would be a GREAT thing to use to make a video for your class.  I remember for our 8th grade year they had a memorial video of pictures of the whole 8th grade year and I always thought it was so hard to make.  Well this proved to me that it is very easy to do.  You can make videos of class fieldtrips, projects, or just the daily day of things you do in your class.  And you could show that to teachers on Parent Night or have it playing outside your classroom during Parent Teacher Conferences while parents wait for their meeting.  I think this is a great tool you can use in your classroom.  It shows you care about the class and what them to have memories of your class. I made a video of our basketball just for something fun to show the guys.  I showed some of them and they thought it was funny/cool and that was all the reaction I needed.

THING 20

I have always been a big fan of YouTube.  I like it a lot because you can get some really great and interesting videos on almost anything you can think of.  I know many teachers that have shown us videos on YouTube in class.  The only thing that is tough about having kids, especially in high school, use YouTube is because they get distracted very easily on it.  They will spend a lot of time searching videos they like and not a lot of time searching for videos that is for their project.  I was/am the same way about getting distracted.  The video I choose to put on here I saw my senior year of high school and found it to be eye opening.  It shows with just how a little difference you make in your life; just a little more hard work then someone else can make the difference in the end.  I do not really know of any features or components that would apply to a library website.  But I believe that every teacher can use YouTube in one way or another

THING 19

I am a member of a couple of online communities.  I am on Facebook and Twitter.  The main ones that people are on but not on any special ones.  I am sure I will join another one at some point of my life but have not found one that is interesting to me right now.  There were two social networks that were pretty appealing to me.  There was Flixter and Bake Space.  Flixster was something I would look on a lot because I love watching and going to movies.  So I think it would be nice to have a spot that anyone can go on and comment on what they thought of the movie.   I actually used it when I was looking on it.  I am going and seeing Cars 2 and Transformers 3 soon and so I went on and looked what people thought of the movie.  It is also a spot I would look at if I can not decide if a movie is going to be good or not  I can get a quick review on what others think of it.  I spent a lot of time on the Bake Space site.  I love cooking and watching the food network so this site is perfect to go on and find recepies.  I found a couple of good ones that I want to try and make.  Both of these networks are appealing and I know I will use both in the future.

THING 18

I think that both Twitter and Facebook can be useful if you are a teacher.  It is important for educators to know different social networking and how they work because they can learn from others if they use them.  They would be able to find other teachers that post up their thoughts about teaching and even videos that may help other teachers.  I found that both of them can really give you a lot of places to find helpful advice teachers may need.  I like both of them and really did not have anything bad about them.  I think they are both really easy to get around and that you can find a lot of helpful things in both.  I think that Facebook will have the most useful things to use though between the two.  You can put more information on your Facebook page than twitter and it is easier I think to communicate with people.  I think that for teachers and such these would be good to use but I do not know how great they would be with students.  I think that they could get easily sidetracked with it.

THING 17

I think that Del.icio.us is a great site and I do not like it better than Google as of right now but it is getting close.  It is a great tool to use in the classroom I think. One thing I like about it is how you can tag your favorite sites and do not have to worry about losing them.  This allows kids to do research and be able to find the websites they were using for research at home as well.  This also helps me right now because we travel a lot and sometimes I do not always have my computer with me and so I can use anyone’s computer and still have the websites I have bookmarked.  It is also a great search engine and does a great job finding the topic you want with good reliable sources.  I think this is a great spot for kids to use in school because they can access it from school or home.  Also it does a great job finding information on the topic you desire.  I would use Del.icio.us everyday in class.

THING 16

I choose to do iGoogle for this thing.  I have made calendars before and they have been very useful but have never done a iGoogle.  But I do have a Gmail so I am familiar with Google and how it works.  While going through iGoogle it was not to learn and think it is very easy to get around with.  To be honest I will probably not have it as my homepage because I have ESPN because I like to see what is going on in the sports world everyday.  I think that online calendars can be very useful and helpful.  I think that if I am teaching I will use it because I will have access to the internet and computer all the time.  But right now I am always on the move and sometimes I am not able to get to the internet so having a calendar on my phone is very helpful and useful.   I actually love to do lists.  I sit down in the beginning of the day and either write down what I need to do or put it in my phone. To do lists just work for me.

THING 15

I found wiki to be very easy to use and get around it.  Other teachers will be able to use this I think and why not it’s a great site.  You can share ideas and post new things onto your own page.  By doing that you can learn information from other teachers and maybe how they taught something’s.  It is also a great discussion tool I think.  You can write down a topic or question then give the kids time to write about it.  And once they are done you can have a class discussion about it.  The only thing that I do not love about it is there can be unreliable information on it.  But besides that I love it and think it would be great to use in the classroom.

THING 14

I  thought some of this was confusing and some of it was not.  I have used mindmaps in school before but never online.  It was pretty easy to figure out but it took me a little while.  The mindmap I choose to do was mindmeister.  It was pretty easy to get around once you go the hang of it.  The flowchart I found to be pretty difficult and confusing.  I have never done them before especially online.  And the site I choose, flowcharts.com, was tough to get around.  The difference between them to me is that flowcharts have more of a process like a beginning and ending.  While the mindmaps are more for main ideas and thoughts which I like better.  It was nice to get into something different that I have not really done before.

THING 13

After looking through Zoho and Google Docs sites I found both were pretty easy to use and similar.  It is nice knowing you have good programs that are free that you can access.  Another great thing about them both is you can access them from either school or home.  You can get them at both ends and do not have to worry about saving them on a flashdrive and carrying them back and forth.  I would rather use Google Docs though instead of Zoho if it came down to it.  I am just very famiular with Google and already have a Gmail account which already has Google Docs in it I believe.  I like how you can have kids put up their work online and the class is able to get it.  I think this will help kids get ideas and will help them with their work.  I made a picture on Google Docs just to make one and see how it all works.  It was pretty easy to make and I think that kids would love being to put pictures up on their and then write on them or mess around with them.   I think there are a lot of cool things on both but in the end would use Google Docs.
